| tim harrington arata ca un profet sarit de pe fix si e vocalul trupei les savy fav. vocal e putin spus, el e practic grasunul jovial cu joc de showman care atrage toata atentia intr-un performance live. l-am vazut la festival in londra pe o ploaie torentiala care nu l-a impiedicat sa faca ode soarelui sa revina cu razele sale si sa faca tot genul de poante care au atras public ce de obicei nu ar asculta ce canta trupa lui. evident, cei de la pitchfork, apreciindu-i ghidusiile de pe scena, l-au atras intr-un sitcom care abia ce a inceput. hilarious! |

| pe 23.06.2006 incepeam un post destul de SFist pe atunci in care va invitam sa ne sugerati ce trupe ar trebui sa ne treaca pragul. Cunoscut publicului larg mai ales pentru recitalurile de teremin in statiuni adiacente Lacului Como sau pentru rolurile minore din unele piese de teatru radiofonic din deceniul trecut, Costin Popescu e mai degraba un personaj inconjurat de mister. Ei bine, odata cu apritia cartii "Recviem pentru spioni", scrisa cu autoritatea ce ti-o da expertiza de catre Dl. Gheorghe Dragomir , misterul antementionat e pe cale sa se risipeasca precum fumul recent descoperitei tigari care nu scoate fum. Opus-ul detabuizaza subiecte candva tabu, dand la o parte voalul discretiei de de pe topicuri ce trateaza "frontul invizibil", asa cum ne place sa numim acea lume pe care filmele idioate de spionaj ne-au facut sa o credem reala. Frunzarind frugal paginile cartii care, fortand putin metafora, pot fi asemuite cu niste frunze, ne sunt relevate cateva elemente din biografia cavernoasa ale susnumitului; lucruri pe care doar le intuiam, dar avand inca de platit rate la banci, ne temeam sa le discutam cu colegii: apartenenta la "grupul de la Berna" (sub pretextul organizarii unui festival de circ, nenorocitii pangareau animalele din manej), faptul ca a vandut reteta Algocalminului unei puteri nucleare care incepe cu C, pasiunea maladiva pentru imprimante matriciale, plus practica consumului de bauturi spirtoase pe stomacul gol.
Da, e adevarat, la chestionabil, usa e oricand deschisa pentru lectura. |

| 2008, DC Recordings. For an album called Ex-Aquarium, Kelpe's third long-player sounds remarkably like it's still under water. The fourteen tracks have a submerged sound that wobbles, squelches and nods along with a slightly stoned smile, never getting much above 90bpm. There's no massive spread of influences but Ex-Aquarium is a likable, if slightly limited, friendly little world where trees talk, it's always summer and the closest you come to harm is talking to a fish. Tricks like the seemingly near-omnipresence of the sound of a ping pong ball bouncing of the bat ties it all together, like those ballsy drumbeats and the murkily powerful synths. Threads run cleverly in and out of each song, you'll discover them without really realizing and then they'll crop up when you least expect. This is meant as a compliment, but this record is almost seamless when put on repeat play. Downtempo, some IDM. |

| 2008, Die Schachtel. German Stephan Mathieu is living proof that some artists don't fade with time; on the contrary, they only get better. Joining the ranks of Thomas Fehlmann, Mathais Grassow, Carsten Nicolai, Asmus Tietchens, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, and others, Mathieu is a experimental musician over the age of forty who shows no signs of slowing down into his later years. As is all the rave these days, Mathieu's work on Radioland revolves around processing shortwave radio signals (a la William Basinski) and building a sound structure around them. This idea does seem to get a lot of millage these days, perhaps to the point of saturation, but it can be highly effective when used properly. Given the right samples, an astute processor, and the correct instrumental backdrop, these recordings can really come to life with textures and subtleties that are almost impossible to create otherwise. Drones occupy much of the sonic space in Radioland. This "land" consists of various drone types cutting into and swirling around the radio waves, interacting at a subconscious level but also very aware of the presence of one another. Drones come in a variety of different shapes and sizes: the hostile, threatening, noisy kind; the light, fully ambient kind; the piercing, shimmering, pulsating kind; and so on and so forth. | 2008, Somnia. Mr. Evan Bartholomew, for connoisseurs of tech house, he is known as Evan Marc. For fiends of psybient and dubbed out downtempo, he is Bluetech - the West Coast producer of psychedelic influenced IDM sound (PsyDM) and an owner of a prolific record label, Native State Records. But a recent shift in economics of the music industry pushed Evan to create another independent label, Somnia, where along with a roster of modern classical musicians, he releases limited copies of minimal, electro-acoustic and ambient dreamscapes under his own name, Evan Bartholomew. In this fourth Somnia release, Dreamtime Submersible, Bartholomew compliments his ambient soundscapes with dub techno influences. This album is a continuous mix of evolving sweeps, that becomes a single unfolding composition within seven movements, each transforming and elaborating on the theme. | 2008, Domino. Kieran Hebden (aka Four Tet) and Steve Reid's fourth collaboration is as much of a concept album as their improvisational technique allows for. NYC, as its name suggests, was recorded in homage to the Big Apple, which is Reid's hometown. It was recorded in two days at the famous Avatar Studio, which has been a recording home to such New York luminaries as Steve Reich and Miles Davis. Hebden comments that "Everything we did when making the record from choosing the studio to the food we ate to mixing the sounds to the order of tracks was done with New York in mind." As far as the music goes, the New York motif is evident in Reid's drumming style - he states that "New York City is always in the rhythms." Excelent! |

Daca cumva gratioasa noastra cititoare si-a propus sa insinueze ca puteriele tamaduitoare ale acestui tunel le intrec pe cele ale recent expuselor moaste si prin asta incearca o desacralizare a acestui blog, ei bine, atunci doamna Ghenoiu tocmai si-a facut rost de niste dusmani redutabili.

Planet Mu advance into the inviting world of Skwee with a full length Skwee eL Pee from Finland's Eero Johannes. For those unfamiliar with Skwee, it's basically a lo-fi and quite tongue-in-cheek style of synth pop indiginous to the peoples of Scandinavia, with practitioners and producers ranging from The Knife through to DMX Krew or Mesak. It's proper hero music for those days when you can't get out of bed and just need the naughtiest 8-bit synth solo to let you know it ain't all that bad. |

Am vrut sa continui rubrica "comentariul de vineri" cu un subiect care devine din ce in ce mai stresant pentru mine. De fiecare data cand ies de la birou, dau nas in nas cu manelistii 'mexicani' (or peruvian pan flute bands ca cica sunt din Peru) imbracati in indieni, comportandu-se ca niste incasi, zambind ca bolivienii, where the fuck are they coming from? Zeci de curiosi stau si le adulmeca performance-ul, in timp ce ei combina trei acorduri, doua sunete si sincer cred ca au aceleasi versuri in fiecare piesa. La unirii sunt unii, altii la romana, pe langa gara se mai perinda vreo 3 tinerei, iar cireasa de pe tort au fost cei din fata mall-ului din timisoara. Imi sareau in minte tot felul de scenarii in care manelistii 'mexicani' (peruvian pan flute bands) colonizeaza lumea si ii gasesti in fiecare loc turistic de pe glob. Aberant sau nu, ei chiar sunt o "boala" muzicala ce si-a intins tentaculele in fiecare metropola. Oare au fan club? Oare cate albume vand pe zi? Cati bani fac sarlatanii astia? Toate aceste intrebari mi-au fost raspunse de acest superb episod din south park (maine apare si partea a doua). pls watch

But around 1999, he shifted his angle of attack to techno's more aerodynamic 4/4 rhythms. His handiwork in this style can be found on several releases for the mighty Kompakt and the up-and-coming Echochord imprints. Mikkel Metal presents the full length version of 'Peaks and troughs' featuring some strong performances from his vocal spar and muse Paul St Hilaire. This is probably one of the most highly developed and thoroughly engaging dub tech albums we've heard in a long time, and the vocals from Paul St. Hilaire really lend this a gravitas all of it's own. Fiind inceputul seriei, va voi propune un test simplu, la indemana oricui, ce implica o investitie modesta, suma ce va va furniza satisfactii cel putin inzecite, plus ceva haleala.
Se aplica la orice locatie McDonald's, unde tot ceea ce trebuie sa faceti, e sa cereti calm, raspicat si o dictie ireprosabila: "Un meniu Big Mac, cu Cola, aici."
Se tasteaza preocupat la casa, dupa care urmeaza primul deliciu: "Cola, Fanta, Sprite?"
Se raspunde la fel de calm si onest: "Cola".
Orice adaos de ironie superioara, precum: "Dupa cum am spus, Cola" n-ar aduce decat o adiere de tensiune inutila.
Urmatoarea intrebare nu face decat sa confirme ca banii au fost corect cheltuiti: "Aici sau la pachet?"

Din seria partyurilor "private" cu artisti de marca, gen Coldcut la sf gheorghe, domnul Krush ne-a facut sa ne simtit ca la o petrecere aniversara de joi. Aplauze, bis, dj krush venit sa faca ce stie mai bine si o atmosfera foarte relaxata. Eh, cand vine vorba de sunet, eu sunt f greu de multumit, si o recunosc, optiunea surround sound era data la maxim cred si basul trebuia putin mai sus. Dar nu s-a simtit asa tare. Dupa ce am iesit vineri spre sambata la 5 dimineata din studio martin, am ajuns acasa, am deschis televizorul si m-am decis. Plecam la TMBase. 9 ore dus, 9 ore intors, nu conduc eu. Aproape 20 de ore pierdute doar pe drum. De ce?
Ei bine, a meritat pe deplin. Tmbase a ramas singurul si cel mai bun festival de muzica underground din Romania.
TRG a fost rasfatatul serii, dar asta nu ma mira absolut deloc, urmat de un Benga pus pe muzica de suflet.
Beardyman un mic geniu, iar JFB (prezenta consacrata la Tm) din ce in ce mai bun.
Seara terminata cu london elektricity si cu public timisorean ca-n vest.
trip-hop, dubstep, 2step, beatbox, dnb, breaks etc.
Lansez provocarea: Traim si noi o seara din asta in Bucuresti?
(poate o lasati mai moale cu petreceri disparate si sezatori nocturne in care sa se "analizeze" scena muzicii electronice romanesti si va uniti fortele/bugetele pentru a oferi si publicului bucurestean un mic eveniment gen tmbase). Nu?

2007, LP Freestyle Records. They definitely got the title right on this one - as the album's a deep funk monster through and through - easily one of the best examples of contemporary funk we've heard in a long long time! The liner notes are a bit sketchy on the details of the session, but apparently the tracks were recorded a number of years back in the UK - with instrumentation that includes percussion from Snowboy, Hammond from James Taylor, and a whole lot more tenor, baritone, flute, guitar, and Fender Rhodes in the mix - all captured perfectly in the studio. Funk, Deep Funk, Instrumental.

| 2008, Cocoon. The work on "Schöne Neue Extrawelt" started more than two years ago for Schaffhausen and Raabe. "The initial idea was to present an album covering all styles of electronic music between Ambient, Breakbeats and Techno. When we had 25 tracks for the album ready, we had to realize that this approach did not work for us. Insofar, we finally decided to use the 4/4 bass drum in all tracks except in the little intermezzo "Kurt Curtain". We have tested all tracks live over the last three month and constantly re-interpreted them. So the danceability is clear in our focus, but the sound spectrum and the dramatics of the titles should not be solely functioning in the club. Our intention was definitely not to deliver an album full of superficial peak time hits.". Techno, Minimal, Experimental |

Chestionabil, impreuna cu prietenii de la Studio Martin, pun la bataie 2 invitatii la acest party a la Berlin Calling. E foarte simplu. Cu ajutorul site-ului transfer.ro, sau pe mail as mp3, as dori sa primesc niste piese funk (da, imi place sa schimb registrul). Cele mai dragute piese vor fi "puse pe lista". Bafta! Inca doua invitatii fierbinti la Thievery Corporation prin intermediul Emagic! Problema e urmatoarea: pe modelul Thievery, profesionistele Crissy Moran si Asia Carrera vor sa-si faca o formatie. In primul rand, au nevoie de un nume. Le place terminatia "Corporation" asa ca asta ar vrea sa fie si pentru ele. The typical dub-sounding arrangements still form the basis of all the thereon contained tracks, which for the first time cover a more widen thematic and stylistic variety than on his previous albums. Clearly hearable influenced by funk and soul, minimal techno as well as deep house, absorbing Chicago rhythms and early Detroit sounds, 'Humantron' is less intended to be a kind of acoustic window-dressing of grown technical skills but it's more an invitation to a trip across a colorful world history of the evolution of electronic music seen through the eyes of Alex Krüger who melted into unity with his equipment after all these years of tireless producing and turned into a kind of man-machine himself. A punky palette of raw freaked out Lo-fi chicago trax and deep detroit jams made with machines which were found next to the garbage can. Shocked in awe he heard that this music came out of The Hague, Holland, the very same city he lived in! Musical mentors such as IF and Melvin White (aka pametex) lectured him with even more unknown sounds such as early electro and the obscure pre-1983 Italian disco which production secrets were closely studied. Mostly written on the road as he made his way from Leeds to his new home in Ibiza, Thought So strips chill-out right down to the basics, a blissful, unhurried coast of clacking hip-hop breaks, sparse guitar and shimmering synthesizer grounded in Evelyn's main musical passions, vintage soul, jazz, and the late-night boom of the dub soundsystem. A handful of guest vocalists - Ricky Ranking, Chyna Brown and Ella May - add colour. And while there is a distant echo of Nightmares On Wax's early bleep beginnings in Be There, you leave feeling that Evelyn is more than satisfied with his current pace of life: slow, steady, stoned. The album reeks of class as one would expect from outfit that has been together as long as they have. And once again it's impossible to define the sound they make...afro jazz, krautrock, rockabilly, hip hop and funk all bubble in their dub melting pot. | 2008, Morgan Geist - Double Night Time, Environ label. 2007's Jacko-esque Metro Area single 'Read My Mind', not to mention the bombastic Kelley Polar album of earlier this year, suggested that the focus of New York's Environ Records was shifting from grievously honed disco and deep house pastiche to ebullient electronic pop. The injection of camp - and vocals - has been a welcome one, and is in bright, beaming evidence on Double Night Time, Morgan Geist's third solo album to date and the first since 1998s Into A Separate Space. This is very much a song-based record, and those songs are sung by Junior Boys' Jeremy Greenspan. The Canadian warbler has never sounded so good, his usually off-puttingly earnest register finding its perfect foil in Geist's busy, voluptuous production. Highlights include 'The Shore', a ducking, diving, almost broken beat-style track, 'Ruthless City', which sounds like the greatest Junior Boys track never made, and 'Most of All' - a timeless, quaintly romantic blast of Gotham boogie. We already knew that Morgan Geist was one of the most thoughtful and gifted dance producers of his generation, but Double Night Time reveals him to be a stunning pop songwriter and arranger too - capable of both sleights-of-hand and grand gestures that a Quincy Jones or Moroder would have been proud to call their own. |

ma duc astazi la boarders sa-mi continui periplu pantalonistic. Totul bine si frumos. Traficul de ora 19 isi pune amprenta pe seriozitatea mea. Dupa ce o iau pe jos si alerg spasmatic ca sa prind ultimul client, ajung FIX la ora 19:54. In fata magazinului, un tanar cu cioc, sapca, skater look alike si cu cercel din ala extra-ear se uita la mine si declara nevinovat: "e-nchis". Hm. Ma uit pe geam, inauntru 3 baieti probau tenisi si se hilizeau la un video cu cazaturi. Insist: "auzi te rog mult, ma uit la o pereche de pantaloni si ies in 5 minute". Cu mainile incrucisate si cu alura deftones'iana isi coboara privirea catre mine, isi suge resturile dintr-o masea cariata si spune sec: "Am treaba". Am trecut dupa 10 min si era usa larg deschisa.
WTF is wrong with u guys? Pe langa preturile exorbitante, atitudinea fals superioara e complet de prisos. Fuck it, I'm buying online from now on.
P.S. fac o serie cu povestioare adevarate care mi se intampla in "localurile cu pretentii" ce inca nu au scapat de petele autohtone; povestioare in genul celor 95% din blogurile care apar precum ciupercile dupa ploaie

2008, raster-noton. On Stabil, his 2006 debut for Raster-Noton, Kangding Ray (David Letellier) took the label's signature high-end frequencies and precise digital rhythms, and added traces of acoustic tones and melodies. The album largely retained the label's cool austerity, but touched on something warm beneath the surface. Automne Fold, the Berlin-based artist's sophomore effort, goes further in exploring this combination of digital and organic sounds, incorporating more acoustic instrumentation (such as violins and a detuned piano) and even vocals, creating what is one of the label's warmest and most openly emotional releases.

Those familiar with Deadbeat's last album, which felt much more a collection of tracks, will be immediately struck by Roots and Wire's larger cohesive narrative arc after first listen. The album is aesthetically informed by his longterm collaborative friendship with Robert Henke (monolake), the creative relationship with Wagon Repair, the close proximity of his fellow artists in Berlin and the opportunity to collaborate with Paul St Hilaire (Tikiman). It is no surprise that an album of such vast scope be largely inspired by the artist's own transition from Montreal based producer releasing on Berlin label ~scape for 5 years, to Berlin based producer releasing on a Canadian label. | 2008, !K7. When Tim Simenon made his last record as Bomb The Bass, Britpop was in full swing and dance culture was dominated by the pensive strains of trip-hop. Thirteen years on, Simenon has proved his continued relevance with a back-to-the-future album that eschews the hyperventilating, soulful house music with which he made his name, in favor of a sleeker, more aloof electronica that aches with sparse longing and melancholy. Simenon created Future Chaos on a vintage Minimoog synth and its dark, distracted motorik is clearly in thrall to techno-pioneers such as Kraftwerk. Sometime collaborator Paul Conboy contributes muted vocals while Mark Lanegan also guests, lending tracks such as Butterfingers the blanched, self-absorbed feel of Depeche Mode at their most brooding. Bomb The Bass may have left the dance floor behind them, but Future Chaos hints that Tim Simenon may yet prove to be a remarkably febrile and provocative electronic auteur. |
