"The comparisons are between classic mix CDs and a later one with a similar template and aim. At a time when Soundcloud will absorb us all, there's something special about (weird to type this) the old-fashioned mix CD. So many mixes abound online, at so many different skill levels, that it's easier than ever to appreciate the kind of work that goes into licensing (even handshake deals take time), selecting and whittling down a fully legal mix CD. Going those extra steps tends to mean more thinking about it along the way, a refining process crucial to a mix of this scope".

Bucharest

Rokolectiv's 5th edition takes off from 22nd to 25th of April at The Ark and MNAC with an exquisite line up of 16 live performances, installations and panels breaking Bucharest's routine. Needless to say, this year's festival remains focused on combining electronic music with related arts, bringing a raft of fresh international talents over and revealing new local projects. Whether it's about deep house, techno, spaced out disco, psychedelic rock or out-pop, the festival remains faithful to its mission of bringing the social life to the core of the stage and providing a high-spirited, light-hearted meeting point for self-determined creative brains.

Friday night is slightly more streamlined towards the dancefloor, with Move D (DE) set to play both a live and a seductive DJ set at The Ark and DJ Sprinkles (JP) called to put his subversive deep-house fingerprint on the night. Swiss trio Sinner DC will round off the evening with their live drumming, real-time sampling, toy organs and slide guitar & bass.

Saturday takes off with Nacho Patrol's hypnotic trip to the sci-fi Africa born in Legowelt's mind, and slowly goes back down to the floor with Omar S's raw and abrasive vibes. Danilo Plessow, the guy behind Motor City Drum Ensemble, will keep you encapsulated in Detroit's spirit while pointing you out towards the future.

Sunday at MNAC, Ars Electronica award winners Antoine Schmitt and Jean-Jacques Birge will conduct an ingenious opera performed by the ears, lights and small loudspeakers of 100 very smart rabbits. The UK duo Mount Kimbie are due to change the ambient with their moody bass rumbles and shifted vocals in what may be called a post-Burial 2step performance. Turzi's five people band will finally start their psychedelic rock assault to heat up the audience for Baltimore's craziest and most eccentric live performer, Dan Deacon and his pagan dancefloor rituals.

Rokolectiv is as always compiled with the friendly support of the local partners and like-minded festivals from the ICAS network. The Hague's festival TodaysArt gave a hand this year for showcasing a fresh bunch of Dutch artists. If Legowelt and Nacho Patrol need no introduction, you may want to keep your eyes and ears open for the organic house combo Juju & Jordash and the genre defying live performance of Syncom Data.

And, last but not least, make sure you've gained your right to party by first coming by at MNAC on Thursday 22nd for Terre Thaemlitz's special panel. An iconoclastic character whose seditious artistic fuck you projects revealing the disarray of creative industries, as well as his ironical outspokenness on social, transgender and queerness issues make him a guy you'd like to meet.

sambata seara in studio martin e prima editie a seriei de party-uri cosmic in care vor performa artisti din aria cosmic disco-ului. unul din diamantele italians do it better, bottin, va fi responsabil de atmosfera de dans galactica de data aceasta iar noi avem 2 invitatii pentru cei care ne vor raspunde cel mai inspirat/funny la intrebarea vonnegutiana: daca ai trimite un mesaj in cosmos, care ar fi acela? deadline: vineri, ora 15!

Trecand peste inocentele de mai sus, eu zic ca primeaza oportunitatea singulara de a merge la psihanalist, vraci si sexolog, in acelasi timp, zilnic si pe gratis. Cunoscatorii au intuit deja ca este vorba de intalnirea cu Codin, manipulatorul Shutter Island-ului CAP, cel pe langa care insidiosul Ben Kingsley are o statura de pigmeu. E o intalnire la fel de savuroasa dar, vai, si inspaimantatoare ca si cea cu stenogramele lui Catalin Voicu de pe hotnews. Daca te-ai spetit ani de zile ca si art director si mai si ti-au iesit fo doua campanii, tinere, rasplata e mai aproape de cat crezi.

Pe de-o parte, aduna cuvinte de ici colo, din diversele sale experiente, din gandurile si intrebarile pe care si le pune. Pe de alta, cu un sampler si cu instrumente la care nu stie sa cante, cu obiecte, momente traite, oameni, zgomote compune bucati muzicale pe care le repeta in loop, folosindu-le ca pe niste spatii deschise ce pot imbina cuvintele intr-un fals pop song.
Perrine face parte dintre acei artisti pentru care muzica este un domeniu de cercetare, iar scena, un spatiu in intregime dezvaluit. In fiecare live isi propune un fel de revolutie intima.
In ultimii ani, a colaborat cu multi muzicieni de pe scena experimentala precum Massimo Pupillo, Hervé Boghossian, David Chalmin sau Hans Holler.

vineri noaptea la studio martin are loc showcase-ul celebrului label german kompakt cu michael mayer si justus kohncke drept ambasadori ai minimal techno-ului de qualitat. noi avem 2 invitatii de oferit celor care ne vor da cele mai inspirate raspunsuri la intrebarea: stiind ca label-ul kompakt provine din orasul cologne/koln, locul unde s-a inventat apa de colonie, propuneti va rog un nume pentru o apa de colonie/apa de toaleta/parfum destinata exclusiv fanilor de minimal. deadline: joi, ora 19!

2010, Echocord. 'Fluxion's reinstatement to the dub-techno forefront continues with his second album in as many years on Perfused. There's no major leap forward for Konstantinos Soublis here, It's more just an affirmation of what all dub-techno heads already knew - Fluxion still makes killer ice-cool techno. For instance, most of the tracks here sound like they could have come out on Chain Reaction 10 years ago, perhaps bar a few Ableton sounds, there's little to distinguish the two. Fans of Substance & Vainqueur, Maurizio and Studio 1 should still get a kick out this'. Electronica, Dub Techno

Jason Corder's sense of melody and structure is second to none and the way he weaves tracks together is a real showcase for his innate ability to write music. Hiding Nature is a collection of naturalistic sounding tracks using a huge range of recorded sounds and electronics to convey a gentle and serene atmosphere. un nou duo electronic in undergroundul bucurestean, karpovkasparov isi respecta numele si si-a configurat o geometrie sonora in care isi gaseste loc si calmul downtempo al pionului care face un pas sigur in fata si tensiunea idm-ista a calului care da sah-mat la rege, cumva in aceeasi masura in care poezia lui ion barbu are o rigoare matematica in spatele careia autorul se lasa inspirat de halucinogene. mai multe piese nemixate inca dar care promit sunt chiar pe blogul celor doi.
